What is Performance Max?

Performance Max (or Pmax) is a new campaign type in Google Ads which combines search, remarketing, shopping and video in one campaign. It’s designed to drive performance against set goals, e.g. sales, leads and traffic, and uses smart bidding to achieve targets such as CPA (cost per acquisition) and ROAS (return on ad spend).

Pmax ultimately gives you less control and goes against traditional best practice, however the results can be very strong and there are ways to control it by segmenting and adding negative keywords.

What is retargeting?

Retargeting through the Google Display Network is the process involved in re-engaging with an individual elsewhere on the internet after they have visited your website and taken – or failed to take – a specific action such as visiting a certain page or making a transaction.

How much does paid search advertising cost?

How long is a piece of string? With paid search advertising you can generally spend as much or as little as you want. The cost per click varies massively per industry and niche – some can be as little as £0.20 but in industries with a high value product, such as finance, it can be as high as £40.

The beauty of Google Ads & Bing Ads is that you are fully in control of how much you spend on each keyword or campaign and each day or month.

How does Google shopping work?

Unlike search campaigns, Google Shopping doesn’t use keywords to decide when ads are shown and instead uses a product feed (list of products) to show product adverts when someone searches for a related keyword on Google. To run Google Shopping you’ll need to add a product feed to Google Merchant Centre first, then set up a campaign in Google Ads.

What are the different types of Google Ads?

Google Ads has several advertising types: search ads (based on keyword targeting in an auction), shopping ads (uses a product feed to display details about the product when someone searches for something relevant) and display ads (text and image ads displayed on websites and on YouTube using various targeting options).

Just to mix things up a bit, Google has launched Performance Max campaigns which comprises all of these ad types.

How do paid search advertising agencies charge?

Some agencies charge a % of ad spend (usually 10-20%). One-Two charge a set agreed management fee with no tied in contracts. A typical cost for PPC management is anything between £850 and £3,000 a month but this depends on the size of the account, complexity and levels of revenue/leads.
